10 reasons to choose the Costa del Sol this winter
The Costa del Sol is not only the most popular place to visit in Spain in the summer but is also one of the most popular in the winter for tourists from around northern Europe. Many visit the Costa del Sol to get away from the cold winters of their homeland and to take advantage of the comparatively low cost of living as well as visiting some of the most stunning coastline scenery in Spain.
Reasons to choose the Costa del Sol this winter
The weather. The average day time temperature is 18 degrees throughout November to March and with an average daily sunshine of around 6 hours.
Culture. In Malaga City there is plenty to do for those wanting a slice of culture. There is the Pablo Picasso museum, the historic centre and the Cathedral. These are just some of the cultural sites situated in the city and along the coast there are numerous historical museums, art galleries and Roman ruins.
Pueblos Blancos. The white villages of Andalucia are famous for their traditional white washed narrow cobbled flower lined streets and plazas offering a far slower pace of life.
The airport. Malaga International Airport has direct routes with nearly all the major European airports making access to the Costa del Sol quick, easy and cheap.
Go walking. From walking along the Paseo Maritimo (promenade) to arranged walks in the towns and villages or taking one of the many treks in the foothills of the mountains that provide the stunning back drop of the Costa del Sol.
Food. During the winter months many of the local town halls organise tapas tours where a drink, small beer or wine and a tapa is only €1.50.
Local markets. There are over 40 local markets every week up and down the Costa del Sol. Once your trip around the market is complete, have a wander around the local town or village. If you like markets you will like the large shopping centres and precincts where many a bargain can be found.
Golf. The Costa del Sol has the largest concentration of golf courses in Europe. With over 50 courses, the golf enthusiast is totally spoilt for choice.
Skiing. Just under a 2 hour drive away into Granada you will find the Sierra Nevada ski resort which is also the sunniest ski resort in Europe and the 2nd highest. It is possible to ski in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon.
The sun. With over 320 days of sunshine each year, just sit back and relax on your terrace, by the pool or on the beach and enjoy the winter warm sun.
