At the Beach

Safety tips!

Whilst exploring the Costa del Sol, you will no doubt want to spend time on some of the wonderful beaches it has to offer. Practically the whole coastline is full of beaches with clear warm water, only briefly interrupted by rocky cliffs. Some beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness, such as Santa Ana in Benalmadena, Mijas in La Cala de Mijas, La Fontanilla in Marbella and Fuengirola Beach.

Please be aware that along this coastline, we do experience strong under-currents in the sea. Therefore please ensure that you check what colour flag is flying before you enter the sea.

  • The Green flag indicates that the sea is calm and all swimmers may enter the water in complete safety.
  • The Yellow flag indicates that the sea is a little rough, and it is recommended due to the roughness that only strong swimmers enter the sea.
  • The Red flag indicates that NO swimming is recommended, due to the roughness of the sea or undertow.

We recommend that you don’t swim in the evenings or particularly after drinking or eating a heavy meal.
