May tourism update

Summer is looking bright on the Costa del Sol

Many tourists from overseas are choosing the Costa del Sol rather than other coastal areas from around the world due to its stability and safety that the area offers. With increased confidence in the economy, Spanish nationals are choosing to book holidays on the Costa del Sol also.

This has led to the Costa del Sol gaining momentum against other international competitors, making it one of the world’s most popular destinations with summer bookings increasing from the UK, Germany, France, Italy and from all over Spain.
Nearly 1 million visitors stayed in Costa hotels between November and February. This is a positive sign to as what the Costa del Sol tourist industry can expect for the summer of 2015.

The confederation of Spanish Hotels and Tourist Accommodation stated that the summer months are looking good as bookings for this period are already 7% higher than the for the same period last year. They have also recorded increased bookings of 2 – 3% from the British and other European countries.

Travel agents have reported that Easter bookings rose by 20% this year compared to last year. They stated that this was a sign of increased last minute bookings and that would be a big factor in the summer months also.

Aena airport management has released a report showing that 7% more passengers used Malaga Costa del Sol airport during the first three months of the year compared to the same period during 2014’s record breaking year.
